Ok, heres the deal

Im fed up of being skint (who isnt) cant stand working for other people and I wanna try do something that I enjoy so I had the idea of setting up an online business as a bottom rung of the ladder (so to speak)

Im thinking of setting up a small, but tidy website as a homepage...the only problem is A)I know less than nothing about building websites B)I have a budget of pretty much nothing (Im serious) and C) would like the advice of some people n the know!

Any advice or information would be greatfully received!

A website is normally only a portal to a business, not a business in itself (there are exceptions, of course).

You must have an actual business in mind surely.

Digital Editing Solutions

people send me footage on disc or minidv tape, I upload, edit and cheap rates!

Its something I enjoy and Im pretty good at and would really like to make a go of it as the first step towards a fully fledged productions company!

Sounds quite interesting. Commercial websites have to look sharp, especially if they're anything which is hi-tec or in a technology driven sector like yours will be. I'd get a professional in to design and build a small site which you can maintain. Maybe post on a load of web-developer forums offering your services in exchange for theirs?

Not a bad idea there Dick

Im supposed to be working with a friend of mine in the states, editing videos from strongman competitions and finalising a DVD every quarter. Hes already offered webspace, so thats one way of saving cash

Swapping services is a great way to build when you first start. When I started Riconian (web hosting) I did a deal with a few web designers. Their clients host with me and the designer gets free hosting and bandwidth. Their first client each paid for my costs... everyone's happy

That's a very good idea. It's a service I'd be interested in.

My services are availble as we speak, I just dont have a website!

My idea is that I would charge a small amount per hour for smaller projects (probably upto 10-15 mins of footage) and for feature length documentaries it would be a set price!

If anyone is interested please email me at

These are a small selection of the videos Ive filmed and edited down for the strongman site (Im the one with the goatee)

In the past I filmed a full (until my bloody battery cacked out) competition and edited down in full scale....Ive heard good feedback from that one.

Im always willing to try new things and expanding software all the time

---EDIT---
A couple more Ive found on the APT site

www.prowriststraps.com/brad_cardoza_strongman_apt

There are more out there, I just cant find them....

Hang heres one I did especially for Runner up at The Worlds Strongest Man this year, Jesse Marunde
