Can anyone tell me what the legal position is on the following...
Ariel falls off top of building,
Repair company asked to quote
No contact made by repair company to say they had been to look at the job
Quote arrives, at unacceptably high price, but indicates call out charge
Company advised they have not been successful
Some time later, invoice received for £35 call out charge
No mention of call out charge when company contacted initially, is this enforceable?
Thanks in advance

This happened to us a few years ago.
Wife rang three companies asking for a quote for the satellite aerial. First bloke turns up, gives a large quote, and we tell him that we have two other quotes to come in. Then he says there's a £25 call-out charge. It was never mentioned over the 'phone and we never signed any agreement. So we told him to feck off and got the job done by somebody else.
I don't believe these charges are legally enforcible, since you were not informed beforehand, so I would suggest you do the same (i.e. tell him to feck off)
