Pretty much as the title suggests really. Just left a company voluntarily and have turned freelance in the construction industry. What are my options? Do I set up as a private company or work under an agency? What are the benefits of either option? How much will it cost and how long does it take to set a private company up? All ideas & comments much appreciated as I have no idea what to do. Thankyou all.

Chat to an accountant - as quickly as posssible..

Are you a "labourer" or "office" type?

(There are very special rules regarding taxation in the Construction Industry - and they will be changing in 2007 so you definitely need to know if these rules apply to you).

I have worked for contractors specialising in the Marine Civil Construction up till now; ferry berths, port / harbour fender installations, mainly office based however I have been known to get lost on site occasionally. Planning a move to Australia later this year but cannot stand the thought of continuing with the existing company for much longer, hence the move to freelance work. Not alot of opportunities with marine work going on at the moment so any short term heavy civils/structural construction work is being considered!! Anything to keep the money dribbling in until departure time.........

Lucky you

I thought I might be able to help on the work front but I don't get Civil stuff much.

Good luck though and I'd recommend working through a composite in the short term....maybe even an offshore if you're off to Australia soon anyway.
