Hello, I think this is probably the correct forum to be asking but if its not, please correct me.

Basically my dad passed away unexpectedly last month. Most of things are in order, there is just one issue that has arisen.

We are aware that he had a number of shares in various companies, but are not sure which ones have been sold, and which he still held.

What is the best way of finding out what shares he still holds? I have considered calling the various companies direct, but I cant do this if he had shares in companies that we don't know about

Anyone got any ideas?

The best bet by far is to look through all his paperwork for contract notes, trading statements, bank accounts, dividend vouchers, share certificates, company reports anything that might give a clue as to what he held and who he traded through. Then call the brokers or share registrars which appear on the paperwork and get them to give a rundown of what he holds.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
