Where can I get good advice on selling my business or looking for a company to acquire it. I have been talking to a couple for the last month and I am not happy with progress. Plenty on the web but any personal recommendations?

Try PMing Srebbe64 - I believe he does this sort of thing for a living.

Find a good business broker. Depending on the kind of business you have you'll either want someone local or someone with specialist knowledge of your industry. There's a directory of brokers/agents on this site: http://uk.businessesforsale.com/

Had a couple of bad experiences with brokers, next time I'm sticking it in Daltons and contacting potential buyers myself.

Am currently buying a business without using an agent, no way near as stressful.

It's a decent size then and mainstream. I've had dealings with Vantis before now in Tonbridge - they were pretty good, and also Numerica. If you're a member of the Institute of Directors they run good one day seminars on this kind of thing - got a feeling you can attend even if not a member - you just pay a bit more. See www.iod.co.uk to see if they've got anything coming up.

Good luck.

Thanks Steph - I think Numerica and Vantis are now one and the same - and I am indeed invited on numerous seminars on the subject. It is cheeky I know but I am looking to PH for a bit of personal experience - I tend to migrate here when other sources let me down !! PHers tend to give you the truth or nothing and I kind of need that right now .... confused

I got involved with Vantis when my boss was trying to sell his company - they did a good job, though they weren't cheap. The sale was unsuccessful though that wasn't their fault - he had unrealistic price expectations...... A good friend of mine has bought and sold companies through Numerica - again you pay for it but the service is good. They are the same but operate separately from what I know - though that could have changed in last six months. I asked what business it was as I know someone excellent who specialises in the printing industry - if you'd been anything related to that I'd have suggested you talk to him.
