I need to do a Fire risk assessment. Anyone got one I can look at to see what is required. I have read all the info but today I just can't seem to get my head around it.

Cheers

There is a template available from your local firebrigade, makes it nice and easy - find the local station number and give em a call

Have a look here. I've had dealings with these Fire Officers and mostly found them helpful.

I have just been through this exercise at work. From what I have read there is no short cut. The authorities have changes the rules to stop people from ticking boxes on a form.

The main requirment now is to think through the risks and then think through the actions that you need to take. What the authorities want to see is the written document that records this thinking process.

All of my files are at work, I will try to send the files by email tomorrow.

While the new regs do stop a tick-box, the template you can get basically asks you questions, you put (limited) thought into it using the examples to go by, and then complete your version. We only did ours a couple of weeks back.

Essentially the worst bits are compiling a set of risks (walking around saying what could possibly cause a fire) and putting together a list of responsibilities.

Personally I think it's total utter bollox anyway, typically doesn't take into account the fact that different businesses are in different circumstances. Our building has a fire exit in every room beside the desk, straight to the fire escape alley. About The only things that could cause a fire are the computers or a member of staff feeling all pyrotechnic and there is a fire alarm beside every door. It was perfectly adequate in our situation to have a "plan" that comprised of one sentance - Whoever see's a fire hits the alarm, everyone gets out the door beside there desk without stopping, head count at the fire meet point. End of.
