Simple question... If you're considering setting up in business how do you choose a good accountant? As I epxect a small turnover at first I don't want to spend big bucks but I'm aware a good accountant should save me money. So what should I look for?

I find short, bald accountants who hang around with Vikki Butler-Henderson are the best.

And if I could find one that wasn't in Farnborough I might choose him

Firstly I would say DO NOT go to a big firm, ie national or even a local firm with multiple partners and largish offices. They are (generally) expensive and can be dis-interested in smaller businesses.

Ideally I would ask around for recomends from friends/associates etc, or failing that, have a couple of meetings at smaller firms and see how you get on with someone. Try ringing them up on spec too and see how quickly they return your call!
