You probably know this but how will this affect you?

Does it mean trading your thirsty motor for a 1.4L

Same here - got a fixed rate for the next 3 years (had it nearly 2 years now), so although it might not work out to be the cheapest way to do it - at least I know EXACTLY what my mortgage payment will be until 2009, by which time I'll be rolling in cash anyway (so says the 5 year plan)!

Bad timing for us because our fixed rate ends in a few weeks time. We requested some quotes on Monday but was told the person we needed to speak to wasn't available until today, so they'd better give us Monday's rates!!

Variable at present. Not too bothered. Lost out with a fixed rate many years ago and haven't bothered since. All the guys in the office who took out fixed a couple of years ago have been overpaying for that whole time until now as opposed to 0.5% over base.

When it notches up another 2% I'll be getting worried!
