Would one of our printers be so kind as to give me a guide price for a job as follows, please:
A4 presenter, 2pp or 4pp
4-col litho
Lightest gloss card (170gsm?)
Artwork supplied with scans included
Basic proof required
Finished & bundled in packs (something like photcopy paper, so I can pass out bundles, exact quantity per pack is irrelevant)
Quantities would be:
- basic start-up of the press (let's say 1,000 copies)
- run-ons of 1,000 (up to about 5,000 total)
- Extra for gloss laminate
Please don't put any effort into it, just your standard "in the area" figures - it's a very hypothetical job at the moment so I wouldn't want you to waste your effort. I would normally know the ballpark, but it's too long since I did a job to remember whether it's £700, £1,000 or £2,000.
Thanks very much

If it's a 2pp I'd look at doing it digitally if you only want 1000 - be £200 ish dependant on ink coverage. 4pp would be £400.
5000 a different matter - digitally 2pp would be £1000, 4pp £2000, the latter too pricey - could probably do it litho for about £1000.

Digital has moved on a bit in the last 12 months - there's a price war going on being led by Xerox in terms of cost of kit and click rates. If you go digital you need to check what press someone is running - take nothing other than Kodak NexPress, Xerox IGEN3 or HP Indigo 5000 (not 3050). Under no circumstances order from someone running a Xerox 2060 or 6060 as the quality will be shite......
I run NexPresses and IGENs - let me know if you get any further with it and you want me to look at artwork and give you a proper price.
