Changing a Company Name
Discussion
Not difficult at all.
Sole traders do not have to register their trade names so there is no formal need to update any central government database.
Obviously, there will be costs involved in having letter headings and business stationery changed.
Banks aren't usually that concerned with the trade names shown on accounts. As the business is run by an individual, the individual's personal name is more important and that won't be changing.
The only caution that needs to be exercised is making sure that the new trade name chosen does not conflict with an existing trader, especially a local one with a similar business.

Yes.
Limited companies are a different kettle of fish. You need to source a company name, having first checked at Companies House that the name is available.
A limited company needs its own bank account in its own name.
A limited company can use an additional separate trading name if it so wishes e.g.
XYZ Ltd t/as "ABC Grocers"

Fly Fisher if you are changing the name for a sole trader account you will need a letter from an accountant or solicitor as proof of your company and your own personnal ID as for LTD pretty much same change name with companies house and the shareholders and company secretary would need to go sign papers to open account
if you're a sole trader there's no fuss needed - tell the inland revenue - tell your bank - tell your customers - tell your suppliers - change your stationary signage etc
if you have a good relationship with all of these there won't be a problem I promise
no need for solicitors or accountants to get involved (tell them you've changed names though obviously)
good luck
