Just had a call asking if we want to be added to Read Publishing Independent Suppliers Guide which gets sent out to all the purchasers for local authority institutions in the area. It's only £45 so not a fortune but I've never heard of it before and just wanted to check if it's genuine. Their website is not the greatest but I'm not sure if I should take that as any indication.

Has anyone here heard of it?

Every time I have put money into one of these things they have returned sweet FA.

There are a few companies which do this claiming to be the one and only 'go-to' book which is kept as a directory for the educational sector.

They ring up thousand of companies who all pay an amount to be in the directory. The company reveals that the readership of 20,000 or more. All that proves is that they have printed that many and sent them out. Most are put in the bin with the rest of the other directories.

All of these directories and 'trade magasines' are treated like 'free newspapers'. They exist only to generate advertising income based on the amount of copies printed and sent to a dubiously selected demographic who may or may not have asked for it.

What he said.

They work on the basis that advertisers will say "it's only £45 so if it doesn't work it'n not going to break the bank".

Save your pennies.
