Hi All,
I still have my passwords written down and for work especially I use about 20 sites that I need password for (and regularly have to update)

Can anyone recommend a decent, secure password app for my phone? Don't really need it to link to the sites just save me the hassle of looking them up in paper form.

Thanks

RL

If you have an iPhone you can create a secure note that requires positive id to access.

Note Lock is an app option which works in the same way.

Lastpass was excellent, but when it stopped being free across architectures (in my case Windows plus Android) I switched to Bitwarden which is free (for the basic versions), open source and pretty good.

+1 for Bitwarden. It makes complete sense and works cross-platform.

LastPass might come back into such a posture since it's changed hands again but many left because of their change to basically not be cross-platform without subscribing (even though it's not much but heyho)

1pass user here, worls seamlessly across platforms and can create mega complex PW's.

I use the paid version as I consider it worth the cost.

iCloud Keychain - built in as standard into every iPhone and accessible on Windows PCs through the iCloud extension.

The only downside is once your iPhone is unlocked all the passwords are accessible, I wish they would have another layer of security, a 'master password' that needs to be entered to unlock the keychain.

I use a paid app eWallet and it's pretty good but you have to pay a per-computer license (mobile side can be used on as many devices as you like).

I did think about changing and KeePass looked pretty good - free, open source and widely supported across platforms. A bit of confusion between different versions which were not compatible though and had slightly different feature sets.

Also, I had so much stuff in my eWallet that it was going to be a pain to move it all to something else so I have stuck with that for the time being. If I was starting from scratch I'd give KeePass a look though.

I use eWallet on my MacBook and iPhone, it works well.

You can group your passwords into categories and give each category a name such as bank accounts, bank cards, forums, personal, memberships etc The app bis controlled by a password, and you can sync between devices so if I add a password when using my phone I can sync my MacBook so everything is there.

On my iPhone or iPad it isn’t.

Even when you have unlocked the device if you want to see the passwords or use them in Safari then you need to re-validate with finger/face ID.

Same here. I’ve stopped using Lastpass since I went with an iPhone.

Another Bitwarden user here. Ditched LastPass when they made it a premium product and then there were issues with a potential breach.

eWallet user. Didn’t like the idea of storing my passwords online. eWallet gives you a local storage as well as cloud options.

Another here who moved from Lastpass to Bitwarden. Works seamlessly on PC and Android (though annoyingly it refuses to autofill username for PH on mobile grumpy).

Also turn on 2 factor authentication for sites that support it. I use Aegis on Android to store my keys (other 2FA apps are available).

use apple or google, what ever is built into your phone, generally no upside but some downside from widening the loop with 3rd parties / additional complexity.

KeePass - it's cross platform so if you stick your file in the cloud you can use it on multiple machines. Also it's free.

Surprised its taken this long to get a mention. I've sworn by it for years. Most IT Pros I know swear by this one. No central point of failure either, unlike the cloud offerings.
