Apologies if this is the wrong forum to ask this but does anyone have an LG TV and use YouTube on it? In recent days I have a bit of an oddity where the options down the side of the YouTube app for search, subscriptions, games, movies etc all have appeared as Chinese symbols. Anyone else seen this?

It doesn’t seem to affect anything else, so video titles etc are all in English. Language on YouTube and TV is correctly set as is my location. I’ve tried resetting YouTube, uninstalling it and reinstalling, powering off TV but the issue is still there.

Bit of an odd one, anyone else have the same?

Had some issues with the YouTube app on nvidia shield and firestick. Couldn't log in and the left hand menu wouldn't display correctly. Seems to have fixed itself now.

I had this problem about 6-7 months ago, was very frustrating. Also around the same time that the TV kept disconnecting my Bluetooth headphones on a regular basis and also doing other strange things.

I assumed it had been hacked or had a virus or similar - was close to changing the TV it was that frustrating.

Updated both the TV software and the YouTube app (numerous times) but still did it.

Weirdly found the only way to (temporarily) solve the problem was to unplug the TV from the wall for half hour but even then the problems would return a week or two later.

I have since moved house and never had any issues whatsoever with either issue - strange.

That was a partial interruption to the YouTube service itself during the week.

Not sure if that could be in some way related or connected to the WebOS app used on LG TVs. Both the android TV app (Shield & Fire Stick) and the WebOS app are effectively just web wrappers for YouTube, so maybe there might be a connection?

I've just noticed this on my TV too, LG LED from about 2016.

Did anyone find out why it appears?

I have this on both an LG and a Samsung TV. Very odd but it doesn't seem to affect the functionality.

A quick search online suggests that YouTube is looking into the problem

Glad it’s not just me then. Doesn’t cause any problems, just a bit odd to suddenly appear.

Just out of interest, does anyone use a Huawei router for their Internet connection (tin foil hats on) smile
