I know someone who cant generate pound signs. He has a US keyboard, or... to be honest I forget, but his keyboard is incapable of generating a pound sign.

How do you create one? I remember there was an ALT+4 numeric keys combination that would create any sign.

In what program do you need to be to create one, and does anyone know the combination?

Thanks guys

Where do you have to be, to type the 0163? It doesnt seem to work in email, are there certain programs in which it will work?

Should work just about anywhere.

You need to press and hold the ALT key. Keep it pressed whilst typing 0163 on the numeric keypad (NumLock is on, isn't it? ) and then release the ALT key.

I cant get it to work anywhere (I know how it works ) but my pound sign is ok, so no worries.

Only works for me using the numeric pad (with numlock on), doesn't work for me using the keys along the top of the keyboard. I think this is normal. Are you holding ALT down while you enter the number?

My pound signs are fine, I emailed loads of them over to the chap who needed them I was just trying to find a better solution, so that he could... generate them at will

It's just a bit quicker if you do Alt-156.

I find alt 0181 (µ) to be very handy, since I work in microengineering.

alt 0176 also handy (°)
