Ipod

I have an ipod that appears to play but produces no sound through the headphone jack. I've tried it in a dock and connecting it to a domestic stereo unit but I get nothing. The only time I get any sound is when I connect it, via the cable to the usb socket in the car. It then works perfectly

Any suggestions for a fix would be gratefully received.

Look down the headphone socket, any fluff? If so get a plastic toothpick/cocktail stick and carefully pull it out.
