cutting phone costs
Discussion
Due to various things had a rmble through my DDs etc and saw that my phone was srwaling 38.00 pm
Now it is out of contract, the phone is still in good order ,so dont need the latest superdooper model
And was having a look at sim only deals and this is what i cannot understand
Have a samsung and it tells me my mobile data usage for the first two weeks in August is 1.33GB so i would imagine that for the whole month it will be no more than 5GB so looking for a sim only deal unlimited calls/texts and euro acess
BUT
it also tells me my wifi usage is 57.35GB rf05 the month from 18 july
So will the wifi access be free from am sim only deal or will it be lumped into the aprox 5GB i may be usung( atm the i am on unlimired data )
Some of these sims look good deals 8-10.00GBP pm Lebara for one, but when i went to order it on line it said i am barred.. Is being on Three anything to do with it...but a possible saving of 30.00 looks a nice prospect
I intend putting the sim in the phone in the free slot until the present number is changed over
There will be another question posted on Sky/Virgin/Bt/Zen deals as we are going full fibre in a fortnight

Wifi access is free and won't get taken off the 5GB you get with the sim-only deal. Now it is out of contract, the phone is still in good order ,so dont need the latest superdooper model

Not sure why Lebara would be blocked, have you tried the GiffGaff site? Their SIM-only 5GB month-at-a-time contract is £8.
When I took my number to GiffGaff it transferred in a couple of hours, the process is painless link so I'm guessing Lebara is the same.
Wifi useage will be using your home or public networks, not your mobile network, so based on your useage 8-10Gb / month should be sufficient.
I would check your historical useage with your network provider online, or ring them and get them to give you the info. I wouldn’t rely on a two week window from your phone.
Also check Talkmobile (Vodafone network) as they have good deals and have 5Gb / month roaming on their tariffs.

MSE has some deals on SIM only:

You can still save a good chunk of £38/month even if you go with more data than you need as a safeguard. I pay IDMobile £10/month for 60GB (on a 30 day rolling contract). However, they rollover unused data to the next month so with 20 days of the billing month left, the portal says I have 117.3GB to use...
As above, for a virtual network (MVNO), just check the coverage of the actual provider works for you.

I came off that train years ago. I'm lucky in that a good friend upgrades every 18 months and gives me his old phone, which is always still fine. Got a pixel 8 atm! Oppo Find X3 Pro before that.
I have sim free contracts, currently paying Lebara £8 a month for 40gb of data that I barely use which seems reasonable enough! (In my town Vodafone has the best signal in most areas so I need to stick with them as the base carrier but even their crap in places in south oxfordshire/bucks)
When I left EE I was knocking on £70 a month after stupidly doing an early upgrade because I got smitten by the first galaxy flip 🤣

I've recently done exactly the same as you, Vodafone was going up and up and was at £35 for 10GB data\unlimited calls. I checked on moneysaving expert and thought I'd try their Lebara offer.
Quick SIM swap and I'm never going back to the big network, the Lebara is £5 a month for the same data and calls, plus the data and calls work in Europe too, which I tested the other week and did as promised, no extra charges. For the first four months the MSE deal is only £1.10 per month which is even better.
I know this all sounds like an advert but I have no connection with them and I was genuinely surprised, I assumed service would be crap but its the same 5G as Vodafone and I've not noticed any difference except the price! Fair enough there aren't any free coffee on Wednesday type offers but it now comes clear who was paying for those anyway. It's 30 day rolling so absolutely no risk, I'd heartly recommend trying them.

Another vote for ID mobile here. £6 month for 5gb with the roll over on unused data.
Also ID mobile allowed WiFi calls where available which some don't.
Mr's Easty is on Lebara for £5 month but with no rollover and no WiFi calls.
We have them on different networks so usually one of us has service wherever we are.
