I'm after recommendations for headsets to use for work calls, the call-centre style ones we're supplied with are pretty rubbish.

Budget is about £50 as it would only be for light work, maybe 3 or 4 short calls a day, with the occasional 1-2 hour call every couple of weeks. It must be wireless as I'm fed up the tangled mess my current headset seems to default to. Also would prefer over the ear style to help drown out background noise from the office/home.

Any noise cancelling functions would be a bonus but appreciate the budget will limit this to some extent. Any recommendations?

If you do not mind a bit of budget creep - I have always been happy with the headsets from Yealink.

I always go for a gaming headset, generally more comfortable, go over the ears and sometimes with noise cancellation. They are designed to be worn for extended periods and be comfortable. I generally prefer wired though as it stops me pacing

I've got an older pair of Sennheiser GSP300s (gaming headset from 2018), and whilst they're perfect for me, the downside is they're wired...although I did replace the vinyl ear cushions in 2023 with faux-suede ones a few years back for more comfort/less stickiness.

I have been tempted by a newer pair of the Logitech G435s, but am waiting for the GSPs to die before I do - although unless I find a bargain in the Black Friday sales (although they're currently on offer for £40 vs £75 RRP).

I think you probably need to double the budget to up the budget a little to get something decent quality that is Teams compatible.

Lenovo are doing this for 67 quid at the moment

What makes that 'Teams compatible'? I thought any headset can be used in Teams.

I recently bought a load of these for our teams. As said above, being a gaming headset they are designed to be worn for long lengths of time. Everyone listens to music as well when they are plugged in concentrating so welcome the improved comfort/sound. They also last a bit longer than your generic pc call headset type device. Some people still want a traditional headset like the Lenovo one above though.

In 2019 I got a Jabra Evolve 65. Basically put it on top of a cupboard and ignored it.

Come March 2020. . . it was put into use and I have been using it all day, every day since then. If it broke I would ask my employer for another one, and if they said no I would buy one with my own money. Note: use the USB dongle, not bluetooth, and it connects everytime.

They are quite pricey new on Amazon, but can be had for half your budget from CeX.

There are lots of variants of Jabra - I would not buy one (or any similar) with only one earphone.

Indeed. I was wondering the same thing having just used my cheap Logitech headset for 3 teams meetings in the last 24 hours.

i have an evolve 2 55, 90quid from german amazon, it was double that from a uk site. genuine brand new unit.

the NC is excellent. i sometimes have to ask 'are you sure?' when querying whether people on the other end of the call can hear the background racket on my side.

Supplied via work we have jabra headsets, the cheaper ones fall apart after several years of use, the plstic "leather" comes loose, the plastic ends of the headband crack, which allows the headband to split open, this in turn means the earphones don't slide in/out nicely. The swivel point eventually fails too.

Recently got a Jabra Evolve2 65 set, appear to be better built but time will tell, a few of us have them now.
One thing that does drive you mad is moving the microphone boom up and down will mute/unmute - this is quite handy, but the headphones remind you that you are muted every time you swing it upwards by speaking to you, through the earphones, it does this repeatedly, very unhelpfully talking over whoever you're on a meeting with. You can disable this however.

Oh the other thing the cheap ones dois if you have them plugged in to charge, they create another audio device. They or teams likes to randomly select which device to use, leading to playing the "can you hear me" game hilst switching between devices, al the more fun when the ther party is having to do the same thing, Evolve2 do the same thing but appear to be a bit mroe consistent as to which device it uses

There is a button you can press to join any active mtg to which you’re invited. When joined you can push again to raise / lower your hand. My company requires you to be on video so I don’t use any of this, but could be useful if joining via mobile.

I use my headset far less than the OP and yet still think 90quid is excellent value for this headset and my use case. It pairs to teams on 2 devices easily and I’ve never had any issue with call quality or connection. The quality of the NC for the people on the other end is worth it alone imo.

My jabra work headphones broke recently, and I got these instead

https://www.amazon.co.uk/TECKNET-Bluetooth-Microph...

£30 quid compared to over £130 for Jabra replacements.

Been using them about 2 months, no issues whatsoever.

A few years back when Skype had just morphed into Teams I bought a generic Amazon wireless headset which would sometimes work/sometime not - it connected to my work laptop via Bluetooth but the whole thing was just unreliable.

Also, if you look at a lot of these generic cheap headphones on Amazon you will see in the reviews that although they have a 'mute' function which works in terms of muting your voice, it doesn't sync with Teams to actually show that you are on mute, so is incompatible in that respect. That would be annoying for me - I am on a lot of group calls, I want a headset where I just lift the mic to mute myself with an audible and visible recognition that I am on mute, just so I don't get caught unawares.

My workplace has a policy of supplying people with a free wired headset or you can provide your own if you want to be wireless. I replaced my wired one with a Jabra Evolve 65 which worked effortlessly out of the box for two years, It was a great bit of kit, heavy use five days a week until it just stopped connecting to the supplied wireless dongle two days out of warranty. I gave up and went back to a company-provided wired headset. A couple of colleagues have had similar issues with Jabras just outside of warranty too, I'm no tinfoil-hatter but that seems terribly convenient, for Jabra.

Your linked gaming headset is fine, but it is wired rather than wireless so does not fit the OPs key requirement.

We use these at work, the Jabra Pro 930.

The basestation connects via USB A, and uses a mains socket to power it (which may complicated things for you), and uses DECT to connect to the headset so you get good quality sound and surprisingly decent range (I can walk the 40 metres to the kitchen and make a coffee while still on a call), I can get several hours of use, and the base station makes charging and storing then when not in use easy.

They aren't cheap, but because they were used by so many companies you can get them for £50 on eBay (I prefer mono, but there is a stereo version as well), I've bought two sets, one I use when working at home, and a spare I leave at parents house for when I'm working from home there.

I've found them to be the best headset I've used, not fancy or flash or loaded with features, but a real workhorse that excels at providing reliable headset use. Being designed for corporate use it fully supports Teams (and other applications) and as they were produced in such numbers eBay is awash with spares (although mine came with a new leatherette ear cushion so I haven't needed to buy spares).
