Just switching an ageing parent over to Gigaclear VOIP and the first stumbling block seems to be that local calls now require the area code prefix, even though we've ported the old geographic number.

I'm sure I remember a setting somewhere on a similar system that would put an area code prefix in automatically if you omitted it. Otherwise, retraining a 94-year old may prove a challenge smile

I've had a Vonage VOIP number for my business for many years and always need to use the area code for local calls.

That said, as with mobile phones how often do you need to dial the number?

I’d have a word with Gigaclear. My mothers line just got punted onto digital voice with Zen, local calls without the std prefix still work.
