New ohine (Google Pixel).

Permission for Maps to use location is on, Maps timeline is on, but it says "no visits for today". Ironically, Google is no help. Any ideas what else I need to turn on or off?

Go to your account settings and check everything is correct, and that the correct device is selected etc

myactivity.google.com will take you close to the relevant section, picture below;

Everything seems fine there.

Just checked my timeline again, and apparently I moved 30yards between 7:54 and 8:01 this morning.

It's ignored the 4 mile dog walk and the fifty mile drive...

Timeline can be quite erratic in it's performance,it certainly can't be relied upon to be accurate. It's put me in places I've not visited and missed places and journeys I have done.
Mine is now turned off permanently

It used to work fine on my old phone.

It no longer claims I walked 30 yards this morning. It now says I drove 110 yards, spent the entire day at a house round the corner and then drove 4.5 miles home again.

Is " Use Precise Location " set on or off for G Maps?

As you've noted, I've not seen Timeline set a foot wrong in over a decade, but I've been using Pixel or Nexus devices since 2011.

I have seen reports online of issues and questions surrounding it's accuracy in that time (including on here), but have never experienced it myself.

I found something called Location Accuracy, which was off. I've turned it on.

Going out to vote later, so let's see if it knows. smile

Well that's a start.

But also enable " Use Precise Location " in the settings screen for G Maps.

They're separate controls, and there's a degree of granularity.
What you've found is in the Location Settings, and that's vital for stuff like Timeline.
But you need to allow precise location on a per app basis if you want it to be pretty accurate.
So if Timeline is important allow precise location.

Any app which doesn't need location access just deny it.

There's no such option

Open the system settings for the G Maps app (not the Settings menu in the app).
We're controlling the permissions the app has, not settings within the app.

Then it's Permissions>>>>Location which will open the screen shown below.

Thank you. smile

Yes, it's on.

Timeline seems to be a bit better today, but still not perfect, so maybe it's just getting settled in for some reason. smile
