My laptop is old and ancient and I use my work provided one for lots of stuff - but really we do need one in the house.

Mainly for day to day stuff, but i'll also use it for some photography editing and astro photography image stacking and editing. This is the only reason I can't get away with a bog standard entry level thing.

Also don't want a desktop.

So...Ryzen 9 270, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd.

Anything wrong with it?

I'm Ok with the 14" form factor.

The one above also looks good from my understanding.... and this is why I never commit and buy anything!

Thes second one has half the memory, half the storage and a slower processor. Go for the first one if it's in budget, looks good value to me.

Pulled the trigger on the original one... Arrives tomorrow, can't find anything similar spec for a similar price.

I'd be interested to hear what you think of it? Especially the build quality and keyboard quality. I've bought laptops in the past that had a good spec but were flimsy and the keyboards awful to type on. Thanks

I'd be more than happy to let you know... if amazon hadn't ballsed up the delivery and failed to bring it to me yet.....

Have had this a couple of times with Amazon lately...

(Spec looks good and Asus are a decent brand smile).

Still haven't got it...

Expected it Saturday.... tracked the delivery driver right to our neighbours house... at which point he looked for our package, couldn't find it and drove off. Customer service claimed I had to wait until midnight on Monday... they've now decided I have to wait until the 4th of July....

to say i'm pissed off is an understatement & currently waiting a call back from their customer services.....

On the plus side you've got it at a bargain price as it seems to have gone up to £699 :-)

Had similar. Received an email confirming delivery, problem was, I hadn't received it. I contacted them within 5 minutes of the claimed delivery. Checked some video footage against the delivery time and could see the delivery driver had driven nearby before driving off. Amazon tried to claim the delivery was made because their tracking systems are accurate to 20 metres. When I mentioned the video, a replacement was confirmed. No more Amazon shopping for me.

Also had an issue with Amazon delivery just last week. Ordered a new Echo Dot in their sale, didn't turn up on the day expected, or the two days after that either then Amazon gave me an option to cancel the order as they couldn't give a delivery date. Price has doubled now so i've given up on it

Looks a bit meh, ram and storage ok, CPU marketed as a Ryzen 9 only 8 cores Core 9 ultra is 16, bit weak, probably ok for the money (price dropped again). Depends on the use case.

But the laptop Core 9 Ultra is only 4 x performance cores, plus 8 x efficiency, and 4 x low power cores - none do hyperthreading - so 16 threads.

The Ryzen 9 270 is 8 x performance cores with hyperthreading for 16-threads.

It's just that Intel's marketing bullst has worked on you better than AMD's wink
