Apple memory price hikes - Micro SD cards
Discussion
Apologies, prob been done to death on here.
WTAF has been going on with the mobile phone industry? Apple now whacked up prices by 20%.
Memory prices been rocketing for years and the response has been let’s all remove card storage so we’ve got everyone over a barrel with no lube.
I’ve had an S9+ for many years. Brilliant phone which I’ve zero desire to replace, with a decent Micro SD card onboard that still isn’t anywhere near full.
Issue is the onboard internal storage is chocca and I keep having to delete stuff I don’t want to just to jeep it limping along.
Bit the bullet and got an A55 but haven’t transferred yet. Last of Micro SD card enabled A series.
Also got my lad his first phone, an A35 with Micro SD which cost £15 for more memory than he’ll ever use.
1. I don’t want to pay extortionate amounts of money for a phone that has got decent internal memory.
2. I don’t want to pay ever-increasing cloud storage fees just to keep pictures of my kids when they were younger.
I would still like to be able to see these pictures on my phone rather than having to sit down at a computer.
Am I just old and grumpy?
Total rant yes.
Bloody sick of ens
tification. It happens to everything.

Sony also increased PS costs recently, like it or not the AI firms are buying up huge amounts of fab capacity which is driving prices through the roof, I am surprised Apple kept their prices down for so longhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3ryj81ywlro

How much cloud storage do you need for your photos? 200GB is only £30/year - way cheaper than anew phone and your photographs are then backed up against phone loss.
I m perfectly happy using a cheaper SD card with no annual cost thanks.I already have google storage too.
You don t understand me and I don t understand you.
I m not a big fan of ens
tification, as already mentioned.tim0409 said:

What s the price of old iphones got to do with price increases on iPad/laptops that Apple have just introduced, which the OP is referencing? I don t see the relevance.Just checked their website some pretty eye-watering increases.
“ WTAF has been going on with the mobile phone industry? Apple now whacked up prices by 20%”
The snapshot shows that phones, with the same storage, have not increased in price by 20%
Sure some other product lines may have. But it was phone specific .
You only need to look at the growth in Apple stock price to know that they could absorb an increase in memory price.
They choose not to because they have loyal mugs willing to pay whatever price they choose to add for their products.
As an example of what can be done
Motorola Moto G86 5G: Offers 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage, with prices starting as low as £162.99.

But Motorola can subsidise the price with their massive profits from the TETRA contract...They choose not to because they have loyal mugs willing to pay whatever price they choose to add for their products.
