Has anyone else recently found a surge of Virus attacks via e-mail.

I have had about this evening all being W32.mydoom and w32.swen.a types.

My Guess is that someones address book with my name in has these and as with this type of worms keeps on bombarding me with them.

The mydoom one is defenatley coming from somebody on PH, as I get them only on that address and only use it on Ph

Its an easy one to spot though

I was getting 100 MyDoom.a a day earlier in the week although it has died off a bit now. Haven't seen a MyDoom.b yet though.

A don't forget that MyDoom spoofs email addresses, so it is not necessarily coming from a PH user.

Ive had alsorts of emails:

Some being sent back by postmasters, and other direct to me.

But all are alais' of my domain name. so i think the virus is just being clever.

50- 100 per day for the last week almost....its getting quite boring!!

I had exactly the same with Novarg, an alias of MyDoom. I've had more of these in the last 2 weeks than all viruses together in the last 2 years.
NAV has machine-gunned them all into a pile of corpses in front of my trench, but it's still wearisome.
The virus adds names in front of your domain, eg Sam, Matt, Dave etc, so eventually I used Message Rules to delete all these from the server.

In the last 4 or 5 days our AV Server has captured more than 1000 mails infected with novarg/mydoom. Why the hell people still hook up to the net without up-to-date av software is beyond me.

Doesn't matter. Mydoom gets it's targets from other people's PCs. Anyone who has your email address on their PC and gets infected will send you a copy. And the "From:" address is forged to be yet *another* person.
