Hurrah!! I've got broadband!
Discussion
For the first time ever I'm Pistonheading from home!
That makes me a very happy panda!
I suppose I should go to bed now, just finished my last night shift this morning and I've got to go and meet the vicar later to discuss wedding details, and it would be best if I don't fall asleep during the meeting!
WOOHOO, I can surf at home! Bring on the gerbil porn!
Dave
PS, what should I be using for protection? (firwalls etc not gerbil related)

Depends on how your connected.
Via modem, firewall for def - zonealarm is popular, but there are others.
Keep your windows patched , dont use outlook OR internet exploiter.
Use firebird/mozzila or opera for web browsing.

Are the standard M.soft applications not all that then?
The OS, outlook and IE are the 3 primary tagets of malicious software.
Not much you can do about your OS unless you swap to mac or linux.
Outlook and IE are probably more vunerable than the competition but are also way more tagated. Plus they do nothing to protect you unlike other software.
If you're on XP the built in firewall is very effective. I use it on my home DSL connection and it passed every test GRC could throw at it with flying colours.
Other than that, I found Sygate Personal Firewall to be very good, and it's free for home use. ( www.sygate.com )
