I currently have a Merc CLA 250+ on my short list, but can make no sense of exactly what functionality I will own, and which will expire at some point in the future with an option to renew at an undisclosed fee. I am quite familiar with the concept of software licencing, also with the concept of buying software outright, but Merc appear to want to have their cake and eat it, charging both an upfront fee and a potential renewal fee in future. It doesn't help that I am buying the car in France, and French is not my first language, nevertheless it appears as if Merc set out to confuse. Various functions on the car including but not limited to self parking, navigation, live traffic information, Guard 360 etc are individually listed as connected services which may require an undisclosed fee at some point in the future. One fee for all? Individual fees? How much? Who knows? For further information I am directed to the "Mercedes Store", which reveals nothing unless I open an account. Other manufacturers appear to be much clearer in terms of what is offered, and what any future fee may be. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Shedding light on this is like looking into a black hole.

I have an early car and it seems to have changed over time as to what dates etc items run out.

My items are firstly, activated on payment - dash cam - MBUX Augmented Reality for Navigation and Massage function activation, these are all for the life of the car.

360° camera and Theft notification and parking damage detection need re subscribing on 16/10/2028

23/9/2032 has a load, mostly about navigation that needs re subscribing on that date.

No idea what their dates will be on a new car ordered now.
