Hi there - I have ordered a Mercedes E300DE which is an urban edition.

I understand Adaptive cruise control and possibly even car play is an additional extra? Does anyone know how much these are? I can't seem to get prices without a VIN number. Thanks

I was going to buy a new E Class, but gradually discovered that it is simply a development of the previous model.
M-B would not supply the E450 model in the UK and some of the new model features did not appeal to me.
I eventually found the perfect W213 facelift.

I am surprised that adaptive cruise control has not become standard.
Ref. CarPlay. You probably need not worry. Mine has wired CarPlay, but a cheap 'dongle' made it wireless. That gadget remains completely out of sight, in the front cup holder compartment and the system operates automatically, immediately the phone comes within Bluetooth range.

Make sure your car will have the 360° camera system. Very helpful.
You are brave going for the plug-in hybrid version. A huge amount of extra complexity (risk) and weight, with minimal practical benefit.

A few points that I have discovered, which are only really applicable to long-term owners;
Never use Stop-Start. - Engine.
Never use Glide Mode, which becomes active in Eco Mode. - Transmission.
Comfort Mode always means low engine revs, so sometimes make use of Sport Mode. - Engine.
Sometimes run with headlights on, which helps better battery charging. - Battery.

Enjoy your car.

I had a ride in a couple of these being used as Taxis. In both cases the driving style of the drivers was absolutely horrible. They kept accelerating a bit, lifting off, cruising down, accelerating again, lifting off etc etc. What's that all about? It made for a very uncomfortable passenger experience.

Perhaps there might be a difference between a taxi driver and a chauffeur.
When driving my Aston Martin (no, it did not cost much more than a new VW Golf) I do like to occasionally give it the beans. However in contrast, my E Class (that cost less than a new VW Golf) always seems to encourage a relaxed, smooth, wafting along driving style.
Mercedes engineers must have worked very hard to provide a comfortable ride. For example, with the 9 speed automatic transmissions, each gear ratio is so close that the gear changes cannot be felt.
It sounds as though some taxi drivers can soon undo all the engineers dedication.

One interesting chauffeur technique, is reducing the brake pedal pressure at the precise moment a car comes to a halt. You then don't feel the slight jolt as the vehicle stops.

I've ordered the car and didn't add anything to included spec as it was a ridiculously cheap lease deal (4k down and 330 a month inc vat)

Heard from others that the regen braking is weird and jerky but for the price I can live with it all I think.

You have done extremely well with the arithmetic Tman.
Someone is going to badly 'burn their fingers'. Presumably the leasing provider.

The car that I bought was 2 years old, 4,000 miles, as new condition and half the price of a new model.
That was retail from an M-B dealer. It reveals the amount of initial depreciation.

Mine does not have regen braking, so I have no experience of that.

You can have fun with the Voice Command lady.
Ask her, "Do you like BMWs?"
Also try, "Should I buy an E Class?"
