Surprised PH have been slow off the mark to report on this, considering how contentious the current 4 cylinder C63 is on here:

I think this is too little, too late for the C63. Also find it hilarious that the mercedes engineers are saying they can't fit the V8 in, yet some tuners have already done it:

I wonder how many of the 4-pot ones they’ve sold in the UK? I’ve never seen one.

The tone of that article is quite interesting - it almost makes it sound like they had inside help from disgruntled Mercedes employees!

In terms of the people fitting a V8, it is always possible in the aftermarket to do these things as you get away with not having to meet all of the emissions, crash safety, cost/profitability, business case challenges etc. you come up against as a manufacturer. AMG definitely made a big mistake in expecting the market to accept the 4 cylinder hybrid system but once the car had gone to production and past the development point of no return, they were always going to be stuck with it until at least the first face lift in the life cycle. The emergence of the CLE53 told us straight away that the 6 cylinder was going to be possible.

In terms of numbers sold in the UK, its not been good, I think its in the low hundreds which is bad based on the performance of the previous AMG models and competitors.

In terms of numbers sold, (the infamously unreliable) "How Many Left" says less that 70 on the road (id imagine most are demonstrators). I know for a fact my local market area hasnt sold a single one despite a number of existing AMG customers getting test drives.

I drove the demo when it was in and it just doesnt know what it wants to be. On one hand its insanely fast but then its not as playful as an A45 or as dramatic as an old C63. The ride is appalling as well!! It really has been a face palm situation for Merc.

The CLE53 is better but more relaxed that former 63 models. Then again, even the new GT is softer than previous AMGs.

The 2.0l C43 has hardly been the beacon of reliability either... i dont know if those traits have made their way to the 63 as well. There could be a fair number of handbacks/rejections if so!

I’m surprised they don’t appear to be heavily discounting these

Back to where it started.
The original AMG C-class had an inline six.
