Hi all.

Do the following cars use adblue?

2010 facelift s350cdi euro 4
2011 cls350cdi euro 5

I'm under the impression that the S class has adblue from the 350 onwards, but the CLS doesn't get it until euro 6.

Thanks.

No, Euro 6 IS adblue

Adblue was brought in around 2015 as a way of meeting Euro 6 targets. Generally speaking, it was brought in for models launching around 2015

You may well find the ones with AdBlue have "BlueTec" in their name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlueTEC

The same article mentions that a Sprinter had BlueTec from 2010 and my vague recollection is that cars with the 3.0 V6 diesels had AdBlue from around 2012/13.

I can confirm that my 2012 C350D did not have AdBlue, nor did my 2014 C250D. However, my late 2015 GLE250D did have AdBlue.

I still have my original brochures from when I was buying and, having checked, they show:

Early 2012 S350CDi was known as BlueTec and met Euro 6, so would have AdBlue. However, I'm not sure when it was introduced as I seem to recall some S-classes had it much earlier than that.

2013 CLS 350CDi was Blue Efficiency and did not have AdBlue.

I'm fairly sure any car badged as BlueTec would have had AdBlue. Earlier cars were called Blue Efficiency and had Blue Efficiency badges, and were not AdBlue. However, there was a period around the dates you quote when cars, or some cars, had neither badge. To the best of my knowledge, none of those 'unbadged' cars had Adblue; mine didn't.

Not true for all brands. Our 67 reg XC60 diesel is Euro 6 but without adblue.

I think there was 6(b) which came in 14/15, but around the time that came into force there were the diesel emissions scandals, so iirc, they introduced things like real-world tests, which was 6(d)-temp and it was one of these subsequent standards that meant that most, if not all, diesels had to have AdBlue.
