my v class cdi just started playing up today. revs wont go above 3k and up to that it feels like it's lost 50% of its power. was running perfect previously. feels like a limiter of some sort activating, any ideas?

Had this happen on an E320cdi and it turned out to be a faulty airflow meter that needed replacing, hope this helps as your symptons seem to be identical to mine..

Does sound very much like a mass air flow meter problem.

the local (specialist) garage checked and it does not have a maf! it's just gone into a diesel specialist for a flow check etc. they think it may be a problem with the pump or injection system. oh dear.
