elegance v avantgarde - e class estate 2002

any one know what the basic difference is? It appears to be that the avatgarde has lower sportier suspension and bigger wheels?
Anyone made an elegance handle better and look better?
Is it a waste to fit amg alloys without a fortune on suspension??
