As above, not a fan of the 19" and run flats for country roads, was thinking some more sidewall would be nice.

In the fuel flap it lists tyre pressures for different wheel sizes down to 17".

Does anyone know if the Merc 17's from a similar age SE would fit over the AMG calipers?

Thanks

I do know this !

I have the AMG line E Class Estate with the standard 19' wheels.

Most of the time I run it with 17" Wheels and 225 55 R17 Tyres. A far more compliant ride even with runflats. I bought the 17' Mercedes brand winter wheels and tyres direct from Germany just before Brexit.

Brilliant, 17" with some side wall sounds much more sensible for wafting around.

I can understand big wheels and low profiles on something sporty, but it just makes no sense to me on a 2l diesel estate... I think the only time I am likely to have a flat is when I crack a wheel as a direct result of the silly wheel / tyre combo...

I can understand your view about the contradiction between comfort and run flats.
Of course the side walls have to be very rigid for a run flat to run flat.

My W213 has 18 inch wheels and Michelin Primacy 4 tyres.
Probably about the best combination for wonderful ride comfort and low road noise.

Although the wheels are branded AMG, I don't know about the fit over AMG calipers, although the front discs and calipers on my car do seem generously large.

The SE or Sport spec cars came with 17inch wheels but they don't look as nice as the AMG line cars. AMG line could have 18 or 19inch wheels. You'll have to decide where you compromise for looks vs comfort! I think they look fine on 18's.

I had all three options over the years, its definitely the case that the smaller wheels ride better, I was also very fearful of breaking wheels/tyres with the 19's. The 18's were the perfect compromise for me.
