fiat punto power steering issue

the power steering has failed on our punto, the red dash warning light is on, are we looking at a electric motor fault or something simpler or more involved, we have no hansbook so dont even know what fuse and or where? any suggestions thanks all...

Scrap what I just said, it isn't fluid based is it!

What year was your Punto made?
If it's the current model then it could need the steering column replaced, a lot of Mitos have this problem.

forgot to say its a x reg 2000 1.2 model think im looking at motor is it best to replace the ecu along with it as a matching set up

looks like a simple.(hope) replacement motor have sourced one to match the ecu so couple days and fingers x hope its as simple as it all sounds
