I need to get a new car. These are the choices for a budget of £15k:

New 147 JTD Turismo 3 dr
Used 147 JTD (any version)
Used 156 JTD (any version)
Used 156 JTD S/Wagon (any version)

Which one should I go for, and which one can I realistically expect to get for my budget?

The car will used for a lot of European driving and so fuel costs are an issue. Luggage capacity is not much of a concern, but servicing and maintenance costs are.

All help appreciated.

Just had a 156 2.4jtd veloce bought for me by work. Goes like stink (third has stonking grunt)and sounds good for a diesel. A bit like my bosses old fiat coupe 20v.

Averaging 45 mpg at moment (fair bit of mway driving though) so obviously I am not giving it enough stick yet!

Overall I am well chuffed with it. Can certainly recommend.

If it was a 16v, it would be quite a clever 5 cylinder engine.

If you're doing a lot of driving on the continent, would it make sense to get a left hand drive, save a bit of cash and make those pesky toll booths a little easier? Maybe buying it in Europe would be cheaper too?
