2nd hand Giulia ?
Discussion
Hello
My old man is interested in buying a Guilia - 2nd hand with his own money !
I believe Alfa has improved its reliability over the years and it’s not like BMW’s are reliable but could owners comment on there experience ?
Looking at a 2017 2.0T or 2.2 JTD with under 50k miles. Leather and nice alloys a must - any other desirable options ?
What MPG could one expect from a steadily driven 2.0 T ?
Thanks in advance

I had a Giulia 2.2 Speciale from new in 2017. Did 75k miles in the 3 years that I had the car with the only issues being that the alarm would go off under heavy rain. Resolved by the dealer by making less sensitive. Only other issue was that the fuel cap warped! Again changed.
Great car all round and averaged 47mpg [ Diesel ]

I've owned a 2019 Giulia Veloce (the 280bhp one) from new since October 2019. It's my first Alfa since running a 1986 Alfasud Sprint that I bought second hand in the mid-90s, and I've been delighted with it.
The performance is very strong, if the redline seems low at 5,500 rpm. The steering is fantastic - ultra-direct and responsive. It's the styling of the car that is particularly enjoyable, however. It really draws the eye and stands out from a sea of German vehicles (especially in Misano Blue!). The brakes are fully electric and feel a bit grabby at first, but you soon adapt to modulate them effectively.
35mpg is easily achievable with steady driving, so you might even get a bit more from the 200bhp engine.

Yep about 30mpg in my veloce (280bhp 2.0T).
Diesel obviously far more. Personally I couldn’t have a diesel Alfa but having had one as a courtesy car it was superb and if I had to have a diesel I wouldn’t think twice.
Reliability they’re fine. 17 plates have battery gremlins, pretty much every issue you read will be battery gremlin related, but most have had a new battery and sensor by now. Pick an 18 plate onwards if that would put you off.
18 plates onwards have Apple CarPlay, 17s/67s/early 18s don’t but can add it with an eng-custom unit for about £300.
2020 had the “facelift” - which basically polished up the interior with a new gearknob and some material changes inside.
Options wise - Q2 means it has a limited slip diff
A veloce comes pretty much fully loaded with very nice leather heated seats and steering wheel, with adjustable bolsters if you find them snug (lots don’t realise this when they first sit in them).
Driver assistance pack add active cruise and reverse camera
Beyond that it’s mostly cosmetic I’m sure.
Veloce sat just below the £40k list price tax bracket so beware of going for a fully loaded veloce as you may get stung with £500ish tax compared to about £150 otherwise.
Most importantly, they’re incredible cars! I’ve never had so many positive comments, it’s literally relentless. Everyone loves them! They drive so amazingly well, even the lower models due to them being designed “top down”.
Any other questions fire away.

I’ve had a similar car (67 plate) two months and I’m loving it. Same issues with the alarm and had to have a new driver’s door lock under warranty. I bought mine from Research in Nuneaton ask for Saber Ali, top bloke.Great car all round and averaged 47mpg [ Diesel ]
I drove the Lusso version and it was very nice but the Speciale version felt well, a bit more special. Veloces were out of my budget unfortunately.
It’s the best Alfa I’ve ever owned (155 2.0 16v sport pack. 156 v6 lusso , 159 2.4 lusso).
