Looks a lovely car but bonkers price. Must be a classic case of auction fever and two bidders getting carried away.

I suspect Sport Veloce would do a fresh restoration to your spec for that sort of money.

Strong money, no doubt about it. However, it's had a full restoration and I guess the cost must run into many thousands.

Looks a sympathetic resto too, it could so easily have been turned into yet another 'me too' GTA replica.

It's absolutely lovely. Had it had been up to me (I wish!) pretty much the only thing I'd have done differently would be to change the colour to something more period / rarer. Maybe olive green or that lovely mid metallic blue they did (Periwinkle blue?); perhaps also a set of Momo Vegas instead of the GTA wheels although I do quite like them anyway.

A full restoration by a specialist must be around £50k .. its a UK RHD which is rare but not that rare. I don't get it.

Resto costs don’t really feature. I’ve never got back the cost of restos.

I was looking at something else on CC and saw the GTV and the price and nearly fell off my chair... I does seem very odd, just 2 people chasing it up from £40k.... buyer pays 6pc as soon as auction ends (unless card has been cancelled since they registered).

Can't think of a better way of establishing a car's true value than a no reserve online auction that takes place over several days. No asking price, no high pressure salesmanship, no auction room fever and so on.

Really nice examples of these 105 GTVs are actually quite thin on the ground and not as numerous as people seem to think. It would be much easier to find a fully restored E Type, DB5, 365 GTB/4 Daytona etc. If you wanted a GTV in this sort of condition you'd either have to wait however long for one to come onto the market or source a basket case and wait 12-18 months (guessing) while it's rebuilt to your spec.

My guess is whoever bought this one knew all this and wanted one now, and wasn't prepared to sit around and wait even if it meant paying a bit of a premium. Fair play to the buyer as far as I'm concerned.
