Battery corrosion

looking at an immaculate 2017 595C apart from one thing!
Below the battery ( & right hand front corner) there is a really significant build up of white corrosion. It is outside the battery soft case (what DOES that do?) There is zero corrosion at the terminals. What do folk think? Split /cracked battery case? The white stuff does not seem to have attacked the battery tray at first sight, but the battery will have to come out to check it of course
