Alfa Romeo Stelvio petrol models - opinions please?
Discussion
Would current or former owners of the Stelvio 200bhp or 280bhp versions please comment on fuel consumption and adequacy in the real world to move the car around?
I understand both are 2 litre?
I'm planning to buy a used one (20/21 model) in the next couple of weeks and am really not sure which to get. Any differences in reliability/ service costs?
Many thanks!

What's the main reason? Potential fuel consumption?
Just a bit disappointed really, I was hoping for something better to justify the increase in running cost. When I drove the diesel it was quicker than my Giulia Speciale with only a small penalty on consumption. The petrol would be a good 20% increase in fuel cost without a 20% increase in fun…. r159 said:
I test drove the higher bhp petrol and got the 210 diesel instead.
I've owned a 2017 280 Petrol Veloce and a 2020 Quad. The 280 did about 26mpg as a long term average. The Quad did 22mpg.
Can't comment on the diesel but I'd say neither of the petrol cars are what you'd call low running costs. I never had any big bills on the Veloce but it did have some warranty work (failed IBS braking system)
I imagine servicing will be similar for petrol vs diesel (quad is a different story - service plan is a must especially if you'll own the car through the 36th month/36000 mile service..)
If you want a bit of budget creep my Quad is being sold. https://www.palmerscars.co.uk/alfa-romeo/used-cars...
What the ad doesn't tell you is it has PPF on the front and full ceramic coating everywhere else. Brand new discs and pads all round. It also has a service plan they should be transferring to you!

Even though the Diesel does sound a bit rough it does go well.
It certainly sounds diesely but it’s ok, multi cylinder ( >4) is the only way you’ll get something interesting. Having owned busso and twin spark Alfas the petrol Stelvio didn’t have much aural excitement to offer either.Performance wise it easily keeps up with a gtv 3.0v6 (unless doing silly speeds)

Thanks for the input - appreciated. What would your Veloce's mpg be on a motorway run (at, say 80mph)? 32/33 mpg? My BMW E93 335i does about 34 mpg. Straight-six, 3 litre twin-turbo. 300bhp.

Its been 2.5 years since I had the Veloce but in a previous thread I wrote: "MPG is... well thirsty. In 12k miles I've averaged around 24mpg. A long motorway drive might get 30 or so."https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Incidentally tomorrow I pick up a G21 M340i Touring and a lot of what I've read seems to suggest the B58 will make both the 2.0 280ps and 2.9 V6 Stelvio engines seem very thirsty by comparison.
Thank you! That's very helpful.

On all the reviews I have seen I think its hard to get more than 26mph from the 280hp which is really quite poor.
Damn right I’d have thought closer to 140 mph…Outside of car reviewer lead foot syndrome, it’s just just to low if doing the miles.

Anyway reading here I think it better to get the Quad as it's not much thirstier and well worth the slight extra cost.
