Where can I get a cheap rear box for my 2.5v6 166. All the usual suspects say they only have non-gen for the 2.0 and 3.0l variants and the main dealer price is silly. Also I fnd my 166 very very lethatgic on take off, comparing it to my 528 bmw touring and ignoring my Maserati 3200. When My dear old mum had the same problem with her diesel A3 i changed the Air Mass meter and was well. Does anyone have any insight ?

Cheers

You mass air flow meter may be on it's way, will first show with nil power at high revs, then start popping when cold, and then get slower and slower. recomend alfashop in norich 01603 426277 for best knowlege and prices on italian parts. (fault will very rarely show on diagnostic check.)

Try unplugging the MAF and see if it perks up a bit. If so, time for a new one.

The 2.5 engine should only really pull from about 5K onwards- and then it flies. Unfortunately when Alfa popped a multi valve head on it, it lost all the low and mid range torque. As the Alfa engine does not have the Vanos advantage of the BM lump, there's not much that can be done as remaps don't really help lower down on the 2.5. A faulty MAF sensor will only show up higher in the rev range because the sensor is only able to detect a lower maximun quantity of air. Therefore a bad MAF sensor will show up progressively worse as engine speed rises.

With the rear exhaust silencer, have you tried to source a tasteful Remus or CSC sport box which will look subtle and sound rather better without being simply louder or more wearing?

PS: CSC is longlife, and Remus carries a lifetime warranty and both are likely cheaper than genuine.
