Alfa V6 longevity
Discussion
I'm currently considering picking up a cheapish 156 V6 and looking around there appear to be a few on eBay for around 2-3k ish which look tempting. However there are some cars that I wouldn't bat an eyelid about > 100k mileage, does the V6 fall into this category? Or is it a silly idea?
Service history is everything. If the car has been regularly and properly maintained, I don't think the miles will be of major concern. If you suspect the car has been neglected, particularly run low on oil (and these engines do have a marked thirst for oil) then run away very quickly.
lol I've just come back to this thread to say thanks and that having found that it's got an okay history I bought it. Just over 2k for a 156 2.5 V6 with full leather and all the toys which I didn't think was too bad. Now just debating whether to pay £500 to get a specialist to do a timing belt service on it or to tackle it myself
Thanks to both of you for the input. No doubt I'll be asking lots more silly Alfa related questions in the not too distant future...
