Overheating 164

My 1991 164 twinspark has started overheating. this happens quickly. in two to three miles so were talking 5 minites max and the three hoses to the stat are red hot along with the top and bottom hoses to the radiator. although the coolant reservior is cold.

any ideas what could be wrong?.

my 155 takes upto 20 minites before the stat opens and the fan cuts in so this worries me.

Sounds like a blockage somewhere or perhaps the pump or both?

Can you feel the radiator core at all? Is it uniformly hot or does it have cold areas? If so, it's a blocked (or partially blocked) radiator. Also, could be the water pump. Do you mean 3 minutes from starting up cold?
