You know all you need to know about the Demon already, right? You know about it pulling wheelies, running nines and being banned by the NHRA with its 840hp. You don't?
See here
, and don't say you weren't told about one of the most exciting muscle cars ever made.
Soccer Mom shootout! This Jeep Trackhawk...
There is, however, more than just the Demon at New York. There's more than just the Dodge/Jeep stand too, even if the Challenger makes a terrifying 1,500hp duo with the
Jeep Trackhawk
. Looks almost subtle in silver...
Over at Audi there's a new Audi Sport race car, the R8 GT4 another competitor in a category that has recently seen very exciting additions from McLaren, Porsche and Mercedes. As with the road car it uses the 5.2-litre V10, remarkably enough detuned in the race car to 495hp. It's rear-wheel drive, with power reaching the tarmac through the seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch 'box, a mechanical limited-slip diff and Pirelli P-Zero race tyres. Believe it or not those wheels are just 18-inch in diameter too, so really it's not a fast Audi at all...
At Lexus a new LS is on display, the LS 500 F Sport; perhaps not the most exciting news in the world but it shows Lexus is willing to pursue some form of performance saloon still. With a new Handling Package the LS receives rear-wheel steering, retuned air suspension and an "active stabilizer" (or anti-roll bar, as we may call it), said to create a "premium luxury sedan that responds more like a sports coupe through curves". Looks pretty cool as well, if you still like big four-door saloons.
... or this AMG GLC 63? Decisions!
Beyond that it's a lot of stuff we knew about before the show or have already seen, up to and including the amazing
Camaro ZL1 1LE
Mercedes-AMG GLC 63
, the new Audi RS5 and, just in case you've missed it at all the other shows, another chance to see the Ford GT.
It wouldn't be a proper American show without some new trucks though, and it again appears to have fallen on Dodge to deliver the goods. Well nobody cares about a Lincoln Navigator, do they? Its new pick-up range additions are the 1500 Sublime Sport (it's really green, see) and the Rebel Blue Streak. For the Sublime Sport 22-inch wheels are available if you so wish, while the Rebel Blue Streak is, to be honest, just a really blue pick-up. Oh yes, and the front grille is a slightly different. But when it comes as standard with 33-inch all-terrain tyres, a factory lift, a load of tow hooks and a "can-do attitude backed by Ram Truck engineering", what more do you really need?
Alright, so the American shows really are still all about American cars. But if that means more V8 muscle and green pick-up trucks then that's absolutely fine by us!
