Scouring through the Reader's Car section on the forum always throws up some wonderfully in-depth threads on ownership, featuring everything from a vintage sports car to a lost 90s hot hatch. But hybrids and EVs barely feature; is that for fear of not being 'PH' enough? When we featured a
Toyota Prius
recently, it garnered quite a lot of attention. This week we have the story of a PHer who decided to sell his Lotus Evora and buy a Tesla, now with a thread to give us the lowdown into what it is like to purchase, drive and live with.
Having been intrigued by electric cars since the early 2000s, original poster 'spunagain' was always keen to own an electric car being denied an early opportunity to 'own' a Mini E. After some positive moves at work he had the money to buy a Lotus Evora, but as his two teen daughters didn't fit in the back a change was on the cards.
Further careers moves meant new pot of money was available and the idea of a Tesla was more realistic. An 85D in Deep Blue with a sub-zero pack became available with a significant discount. Plenty of research on the Tesla site, calling up about service history and a thorough investigation of the car in person revealed nothing averse; the Evora was sold within a week and the Tesla was his!
A service was scheduled to find any niggles, the wheels were refurbished and new tyres fitted whilst a plan for a home charger was in place. He goes on to describe, in detail the quality of the panel gaps, the over air updates and the types of charging available. It's a fascinating read, with spunagain more than happy to answer questions about Tesla ownership. Congratulations spunagain, your Tesla Model S 85D is our Reader's Car of the Week!
