Rarely has the term 'road going racer' been more apt for a car. When you
first clap eyes on these pictures it's hard to imagine crawling through the
morning jams to get to work in a car like this. Chances are that you wouldn't,
but it would turn a few heads if you chose to.
The looks more exciting having benefited from a lick of paint:
Whether the XTR2 finds its niche as a track day car or in competition remains
to be seen but it's a breath of fresh air to have such a car entering
production.
Full details of the new XTR2 have now been released by Westfield and as
expected it's quite a radical (pun intended) looking car.
The car has been built with track use in mind, be it track days or
racing. However the finished product will be road legal and seat two people.
Complete with optional rear wing, the all-enveloping, aerodynamic bodywork is
based on the latest crop of Sports Racing designs. The light weight steel space
frame chassis features all round adjustable, independent wishbone suspension
incorporating all the latest developments from Westfield's racing exploits.
Driving through the rear wheels, the mid-engined Suzuki Hayabusa engine complete
with six-speed sequential gearbox completes the package
Westfield’s founder, Chris Smith commented, "
We have always made
cars that are easy to understand, inexpensive to own and have pure driving
appeal. The essential ingredient in all our designs is that the owner can build
and maintain the car himself. I believe that XTR2 is the start of a new
generation of minimalist sports cars that will make high performance track
driving accessible to all enthusiasts, not just those with big bank balances
No performance figures have been released as yet but with the car said to
weigh less than 400kg, performance is going to be the right side of 'perky'.
Available either as a fully factory built ready to drive Westfield or in easy
to assemble components for home completion, the XTR2 prices start at only
£12,950 for the home build version and from £23,750 for the factory built,
fully road registered version.
