It doesn't seem that long ago we were talking about a special Mini JCW. Oh, that's because
it wasn't
. But the Mk2 Mini JCW GP is ancient history in the furious paced world of Mini development, as here we have the
Mk3
, F56 Mini JCW 'Concept'.
Well it's bold, that's for sure
We refer to it in those terms as, regardless of how Mini names its Detroit show car, the road car will surely look very similar to this concept. The bigger exhausts, wheels, intakes and spoilers are all trademark JCW enhancements, and the badges can be found on the grille and wings as per the previous models. Mini claims the body tweaks, including the obligatory faux rear diffuser, are 'designed to channel air efficiently around... for optimised aerodynamic balance at high speeds'.
In fact the whole of Mini's bumph for the JCW Concept is crammed with lots of creative description without many details or specs. It will be lighter than the standard Cooper S but there is no power output confirmed yet. Mini has promised an 'enticingly sporting aura' as well as an 'irresistible go-kart feeling and genuine everyday usability'.
Even with the car out on the show floor, no further info is yet available. It will be here as soon as we have it. A cursory glance through JCWs in the classifieds shows the earliest R53s around the £6K mark and the outgoing R56s beginning at around £9,000. And something a little more odd, how about a JCW Clubman? Predictably quite rare, the only ones we could find were nearly new and a rather scary £25K+.
