We’re all familiar by now with limited editions dedicated to a significant person in a car company’s history. On the face of it, the Rimac Nevera R Founder’s Edition looks like more of the same, with a tiny production run (just 10 units), a funky two-tone colourway, and the sort of customisation possibilities only offered by a few elite manufacturers. The 2,107hp is left well alone, sensibly.
But there’s rather more to the FE than just some nice materials and rarity, because it gets you into the inner sanctum. The 10 people who’ve bought this will be part of the Rimac Founders Club, and they will remain members for as long as they own the car. The benefits are certainly interesting, and include invites to record-breaking speed runs (the Nevera having achieved 27 already, remember), priority invites to product previews and even a company card that can get them into HQ if they’re swinging by Zagreb. Incredible. And actually the access opened up by owning a Founder’s Edition goes further than that, as the Founders Club 10 will be involved in strategy discussions with Mate Rimac and his top team, plus help out with the R&D ‘that will create the groundbreaking cars of the future.’ Exactly what they’ll be involved with isn’t clear yet, but it sounds like an unprecedented level of involvement for a customer. And potentially a savvy move for Rimac; the man himself has admitted that an EV hypercar hasn’t really chimed with the target market, so there are no people better placed to advise him on where to take the company next.
So that’s the serious bit of a multi-million-pound supercar purchase. But fret not, Rimac is offering up all the usual limited edition good stuff for its most special customers as well. Each will sit down with Mate Rimac and the design team (headed up by Design Director Frank Heyl) when it comes to configuring, said to be ‘an experience world apart from the typical luxury car buying process.’ Already a Founder’s Edition has had an indigo interior matched to another car, and a very specific purple leather for one other. More than perhaps any other limited edition in history, the buyers of these Rimacs are going to have influence like no other customer.
All of these new Neveras will get bespoke embroidery inside, featuring important dates in the history of Rimac, as well as an asymmetrical seat layout - because that’s how Mate has his. A stripe over the Founder’s Edition incorporates Rimac’s motif and circuit board graphics. While the colour choice will be down to the customer, the two-tone will feature on all 10, the idea being to make the car look lower and more aggressive. Lead Exterior Design Clark Yutong Wu said: "Instead of creating some shouty livery, we use the natural geometry of the car as the colour division to emphasise what we're trying to achieve here.” Now watch as every Founder’s Edition comes specced with a shouty livery…
The perks of buying a Founder’s Edition don’t end there, either, as each customer will get driver training from Rimac’s testing team. Probably a wise idea for a car that can reach 60mph in 1.66 seconds. Mate will be there again to assist, and hand over each car. No wonder he needs help in strategy meetings; all his time is going to be spent sorting these out.
Rimac added: “With the Concept_One, we were asking our first customers to take a leap into the unknown — and they did. Those early believers set everything in motion. Since then, Nevera — and now Nevera R — have become the foundation of what the Rimac Group is today, as well as the pioneers of an entirely new level of automotive performance… “I wanted to find a way to thank the visionary individuals who helped shape this path — and to invite ten of them to experience our world in a completely new way. Not only through a remarkable car, but through a deeper connection to what makes Rimac unlike anything else.” So if the next Rimac comes with an all-new V12, at least we’ll know who to thank for it…
