Urban Automotive launches Urus widebody kit

You'd think an orange Lamborghini would be attention grabbing enough - but just in case it isn't...

As your gym bro friend will tell you, there’s nothing like some extra bulk to really catch the eye of onlookers. And if you’ve bought a Lamborghini of any stripe, then chances are the attention of onlookers is desirable. While an Urus is not the traditional mid-engined wedge of Sant’Agata supercar, it certainly has presence. But as your pal will also say, you can always be better. So why not have a widebodied Lamborghini Urus?

What you’re looking at here is the Urus SE Widetrack by Urban Automotive. Overhauling SUVs is their stock in trade, from Defenders to Cullinans, but as an almost all-carbon affair, this Widetrack is another level again. The firm says that ‘every exterior surface of the Urban Urus SE Widetrack has been considered, refined and, where possible, enhanced with bespoke carbon fibre components designed and produced exclusively by Urban Automotive.’ This isn’t merely a case of buying in a bodykit and fitting it; this has all been created in-house. In Milton Keynes, in fact, with only the Vossen wheels not being UA’s work. It believes that the result is ‘more purposeful and visually attractive than the standard model’. There’s certainly no arguing with the purposeful bit.

Perhaps the biggest compliment to be paid is that this looks like something Lamborghini could have conjured up. Maybe not with quite such an extreme diffuser, but an SVJ-inspired functional bonnet vent, new side panels with the familiar hex pattern and a nod to Miura intakes in the sill extensions sound like the sort of things that could have come from the factory. This isn’t merely cranking every design element to a million for Instagram likes; there are some considered design touches here. It’s just that an Inozetek Gloss Pearlescent Pearl Marigold Orange wrap and a set of 24s do sort of set the tone first.

In all, the Urus SE Widetrack is 40mm wider than a standard hybrid. The arches that lend the Lamborghini its extra breadth feature exposed carbon elements. The rest of the kit includes a three-piece carbon front splitter (surely not the work of a design moment) that’ll really clear the outside lane of the M6 Toll in a hurry, a new rear bumper, that outrageous diffuser, and what’s called a ‘dramatic ‘double stacked’ aero feature’. Or, as it might also be called, a carbon spoiler alongside the standard one, with UA logos on the endplates. Oh yeah, and the four exhausts are now billet. If you want impact, folks, you sure got it.

Urban’s MD Matthew Welch said: "Our Urus SE Widetrack styling programme is by far the most technically sophisticated and visually dramatic Lamborghini build we have ever produced. Every detail… has been designed and produced by our expert in-house team with real intention and passion. We wanted to create something that feels authentically Lamborghini in its spirit, while being unmistakably Urban in its OEM+ design execution. Launching simultaneously in the UK and USA feels exactly right for a car like this. It will attract customers from around the world to Urban." That Stateside debut is later today in Las Vegas (of course) because what car could possibly be more City of Sin than a widebodied Lamborghini Urus?

The kit itself is available now from Urban Automotive, fully fitted for £51,800. A range of further bespoke options can also be added both inside and out. With the Urus SE new to the market, even a secondhand one is a quarter-of-a-million-pound prospect, making a Widetrack £300,000-plus for the moment. Less than a Brabus one, at least. And the perfect family Lamborghini, surely, to sit alongside a Novitec Revuelto…
