Remember the Ford Mustang Mach E GT? That isn’t meant as a joke, honest; it should feel like a recent car because it is (the launch was at the end of 2021), yet such is the pace of change in the EV world - especially where SUVs are concerned - that the Mach E is far from the freshest option out there. Time, then, for a rework of the options list.
The Bronze Appearance Package is the most notable new extra for the Mach E flagship, adding ‘Sinister Bronze’ 20-inch wheels, a bronze mesh grille and some new badges. Works especially well alongside the new Eruption Green paint, don’t you think? Ford reckons the bronze ‘encourages personalization synonymous with the Mustang brand.’
This isn’t the only update for the GT, although Ford has fewer details on the ‘opportunity for optional performance upgrade’. It’s promising the quickest 0-60 of any Mustang Mach E, so must represent a useful boost on the standard 487hp/634lb ft and 3.5 seconds. (That’s the US time, with the 0-62mph quoted at 3.7.) Exact numbers of the upgrade are expected soon. In the US, the Mach E GT gets some additional standard kit as part of this revision that was already fitted to European cars, including MagneRide dampers, 385mm front brake discs with Brembo calipers and new Ford Performance seats. It isn’t clear yet whether the cars over here will get extra equipment.
The gold will happen, though (hopefully with the green), and that feels like good news to help the Mach E GT stand out among the SUV masses. The US press release says orders will open later in the winter, so there won’t be long to wait - if you’re not holding off for a Rally. The price over there with the Bronze Appearance Package is $60,990, so a UK RRP shouldn’t be far behind. And if you can go without the jazzy accents - or whatever the performance package becomes - then an early GT is from £40k.
