It’s easy to see why electrification appeals in the luxury SUV sphere, with all the performance expected of a large petrol engine and even better refinement guaranteed. Plus the precision of electric response for those that dare to venture off-road. We know there’s going to be an electric Range Rover very soon, and - fittingly - there’ll be an electric Jeep to rival it, too: the Wagoneer S.
Teased with a head-on shot that shows a trademark Jeep grille reimagined with LEDs, the Wagoneer S will be debuted very soon - Jeep says sales will commence in the US this autumn. Precious little else has been shared for the moment, apart from the promise of 600hp (which feels just about mandatory in this sector right now), a 0-62mph time of 3.5 seconds (ditto) and standard 4Xe all-terrain management. Unsurprisingly, the Wagoneer S will be EV-only as Jeep embarks on range-wide electrification. In Europe at least, it’s set to be an electric-only brand by 2030.
The Wagoneer S will be part of that, too, if likely in limited volume to begin with. Jeep has alredy confirmed that the new model car will make it to ‘key markets around the world’ after its US debut, with EU countries likely to occur in 2025. The idea of a right-hand-drive derivative was mooted in the wake of the concept unveiling in 2022, and we all know the UK loves a big electric SUV - there are enough BMW iXes and Audi e-trons around for proof of that. A reveal date hasn’t been set just yet, though it must be fairly soon if sales are scheduled for the autumn - the perfect car for the Jeep Easter Safari, surely…
