Porsche ensured the car world was made to feel properly awake in the first week of January with confirmation that a new Taycan had lapped the Nordschleife in 7:07.55. A phenomenally fast time for any kind of car, let alone a two-tonne saloon. Now Porsche has announced when we’ll know everything about its latest EV: 1pm GMT, Monday 11th March.
The manufacturer is promising this will be ‘the most dynamic Taycan of all time’, which had already sort of been sussed by the lap time, but is nice to make doubly sure of. Unsurprisingly, the details are being kept firmly under wraps till next week, with only a moody silhouette with this update showing some fixed aero devices: there’s an extended front splitter hiding in the dark as well as the more obvious rear wing.
Since Porsche announced that it had broken the EV lap record, there has of course been the reveal of the standard Taycan to guide our thinking. Specifically the Turbo S, all 938hp and 808lb ft of it, which this car must be derived from. And while there’s not a comparable car in the range currently, the last time Porsche went destroying lap records with something unexpected it was the Cayenne Turbo GT - and that was significantly more powerful - as well as more dynamic - than the Turbo it was based on.
Probably not unreasonable then to expect more power from the new Taycan, alongside the aero enhancements and what is likely to be an overhauled chassis. Especially as it can count cars like the 1,234hp Lucid Air Sapphire and Tesla Model S Plaid (with 1,020hp) amongst its rivals. Not long now before we know for certain!
