It's no secret that Mazda RX-8s are extremely cheap nowadays, the well-documented engine problems and prohibitive tax for later cars making them a bargain if you can get hold of the right one.
Step forward PHer 'seiben'. In need of a new, cheap track car, he and a friend set a £1,000 limit and the eBay search was on... His new track car is what you see here, an RX-8 with a recent engine rebuild, Tein coilovers and a new exhaust. Yes, it really was £1,000.
Of course many things were not quite perfect - we'll let Ben explain those - but there was a great deal of good stuff in the RX-8 as well. As a dedicated track car a few things needed to be upgraded and, once again thanks to that well-known auction site, good progress was made.
There are issues, though they mainly seem to be as a result of some bizarre work by previous owners rather than the car itself. The spoiler you can definitely blame on Ben, however...
The RX-8 has stood up well on track, proving reliable and fast at both Blyton Park and Anglesey sprints. For £1,000 it looks like an absolute steal, and bravo to this PHer for giving it a new lease of life. We can't wait to see where it goes next!
