GM Racing’s new GT2 Challenger is getting close to completion, and this new ‘teaser’ rendering gives us a taste of what to expect.
New rendering reveals ZR1 styling
The new factory GT2 car is still under wraps at Chevy’s racing Partner Pratt & Miller but if it turns out anything like the picture it should make a spectacular rival for the Porsche 911s and Ferraris that currently battle for honours in the American Le Mans Series.
The 2009 Corvette GT2 will have styling based on the supercharged ZR1 road car’s bodywork with wider arches to accommodate the racing wheels, although the racer will run a smaller 6.0 V8 to meet ALMS regulations. Engines will be downsized again in 2010 to 5.5 litres and 500bhp.
In the flesh, Chevy’s new ZR1-boodied GT2 car is said to look more aggressive than the current C6.R racer. It will appear in the second half of the ALMS series this year before Chevy mounts a full GT2 factory challenge in 2010.
